We tend to overlook our lips when thinking of skin care when, in actuality, the skin on our lips is one of the most thin, delicate areas we have. This area is constantly being exposed to environmental aggressors making it susceptible to dryness, cracking, chapping, and even fine lines. Fortunately, with the proper care and maintenance, one can prevent lip care issues by maintaining healthy, moisturized lips naturally. With Earth Elementals' lip balms and incorporating some products you already have in your own home, your lips will look and feel at their optimum.
Here are a few simple tips for optimum lip care:
1. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! Exfoliation is the #1 key to soft, supple lips. Not only does it help with the texture of your lips, but it helps the EES lip balm penetrate the skin, enhancing the moisturizing factor. An easy, economical way to gently exfoliate your lips at home is to first apply some lip balm, then use a soft bristle toothbrush to gently brush in a circular motion over the lip area. Don't have an extra toothbrush? Use a bit of baking soda or sugar, add some water and apply with your finger... gently, gently rub on lips. Make sure to always apply your balm afterward. You are removing dead skin, exposing a new soft surface of lip skin and will want to re-introduce natural oils back into the skin.
2. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Also, avoid licking or biting your lips. This will only result in exacerbating any chapping, dryness, or cracking issues.
3. Include lip care in your nightly beauty regimen. Your body regenerates/heals at night more efficiently than the day, so take advantage of this natural healing process and maintain those healthy, plump & luscious lips before bed by an application of toxin free lip balm.
4. If susceptible to cold sores, look for natural products containing peppermint and tea tree oils which contain natural antimicrobials that help fight breakouts. I would recommend Earth Elementals' Dryad lip balm as it is a completely natural product containing both peppermint and tea tree. Dryad ingredients: Avocado Oil*, Shea Butter*, Cocoa Butter*, Olive Oil*, Beeswax, Vitamin E, Calendula Flower (grown pesticide/herbicide free by us), and Essential Oils of Peppermint & Tea Tree. *Certified Organic
